Tara Paige is a dynamic Fashion Coach and the owner of Savvy Chic Rolling Boutique, an innovative business that provides in-home fashion advice and services to busy women. We sat down to chat with this charming and upbeat entrepreneur to get find out what all the buzz was all about.
How old is your business?
Savvy Chic Rolling Boutique is 2 years old
How did you choose the name, Savvy Chic Rolling Boutique?
Honestly, I prayed about it and that’s what popped in my head!
Give us a brief description of what it is you do:
I’m a Fashion Coach and I love it! I dress the fashion-conscious, curvy diva. Curves come in all sizes. Unfortunately, flattering clothes do not. My job is to seek the most fabulous pieces and offer them to women at great prices.
Tell us your back-story and how you’ve applied it to your business:
I was schoolteacher for 13 years. As much as I loved being a teacher, the education business has changed so drastically that I needed to switch gears, and fast. I started with jewelry, but the market was saturated. I then decided to add clothing to my inventory. Again, it was saturated. I stepped back, prayed and waited on my path from God. He lit up a golden road to success. Where I was once afraid to approach people with my business, I no longer feared the answer no. I now know it’s a choice. Not everyone is interested in every product I sell. I’m ok with that. I’ve learned to approach everyone differently and realize all women have a need to look good! I used my education skills of approaching every learning “ability” differently. I do the same thing with each woman.
What do you think makes Savvy Chic unique and able to stand out over others like it?
As I said, I’m a Fashion Coach for women with curves. I know how to dress the curves because I have had them all my life. I was not always a fashion icon, but I always kept up with trends, styles and ways to keep me looking good.
Do you have any employees?
At this time, I have a part-time personal assistant who is awesome. I also have contract employees that are a part of my Glam Squad.
What do you think has been the most difficult part of owning a business?
Neglecting my family! Sometimes it takes so much, but I know the sacrifice will make life better for them.
Has running your own business been harder than you thought it would be? Easier?
It’s hard because I have to figure it all out, often on my own. I also have to trust other people with expertise in the areas where I’m weak. Yet, it’s also easier because this is what I want. I dream about it! I can’t wait to take my next fashion trip or receive a new catalog with new designs.
Do you think things are more difficult for women business owners?
They can be, but I am a woman in business for women. We are supportive of each other.
Run us through your typical business day:
I get the kids off to school, check emails, and return phone calls. Check new orders, research new fashion information, seek out new business collaborations and dream up new ideas to make curvy women rock!
Tell us about your best business day ever:
My best business day was when several women thanked me for thinking of the curvy girls. I had one customer tell me she wanted to look like Olivia Pope. I understood! She did not want to look like her but she wanted to have her style, which she could project when she entered a room. I feel good about giving women a fashion voice.
Talk a little about what marketing techniques you use:
I have been blessed to spread my business message mostly via word of mouth, but social media plays a key role as well.
What marketing techniques have worked best for you?
Mainly Facebook.
Where did you find the start-up capital to begin your business?
I worked and saved and bought a little inventory at a time. Then I made a change and borrowed $1500 dollars from my mom to revamp my inventory. In exchange for my success, she turned the loan into a gift. She was very proud, because she was quite afraid of me leaving my safe haven job just to dress women. Now she travels to shows with me and enjoys fashion herself.
Where do you see yourself in five years? Ten years?
In five years, I see myself as the go to person for curvy fashion sense. I see myself making a mark on the fashion world as a true fashion guru. I see myself making many appearances and educating women all around the world how to walk in the light of their curves. In 10 years Savvy Chic Rolling Boutique will be a highly sought after fashion business.
